2011 Scholarship Spotlight: Adam Amran, Best in Show
Adam's Story
First off I would like to personally thank the Jay Shapiro Arts Legacy Foundation. Last year I had entered a painting into the Jay Shapiro show. I was awarded one of the best of show awards given out that night, which provided me with $600 in which I used every last of it to put back into my art work and invest in renovating a room in my basement for a studio. I was also able to sell my painting that night. That very same painting is now owned by Lisa Moore, artist and a studio owner of TULA art center. Towards the end of the night Lisa approached me and asked if I would be interested to do a solo show at her studio space in the Tula Art Center. I was of course shocked but completely eager and anxious to start. Six months later I had my first solo exhibition entitled "Languor" at the wonderful space at Tula. I owe so so much to Lisa for all of her amazing help, effort, and how she believed in both me and my work. The show was even more successful than I had imagined it to be. I was able to sell work and nearly double the amount of people I had expected to show had come through to see the event.
Since the show I have shown in a few different venues, one most famously including the Miami Art Museum being a National Young Arts Alumnus. I currently have a painting on display at the Rogue Space in Chelsea, NY participating in a Charitable Auction for the NYC Kids ARTS Organization. (http://www.artcat.com/exhibits/16472)
I am also interning as a staff member at the wonderful Kai-Lin Art Gallery in Buckhead. On April 13th I will be participating in a show at the Beautiful Mason Murer in Atlanta.
I owe much of my success as a younger emerging artist to the night where it all came together for me, and that was at the Jay Shapiro Show and Event. It was such an amazing opportunity. I could not say an honest thank you enough, and I would be beyond eager and willing to help in any way I can in order to give back.
